Hallsville Area The August Chamber of Commerce meeting was held at the Hallsville Community center with 23 members and guests present. President Linda Crigler opened the meeting by thanking members of the Hallsville Methodist church for preparing the lunch. Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Justin Darr reported that the chamber has $4,771.55 in the primary account and $828.84 in the media account. He also said that the Chamber has a CD with a balance of just over $2,000. Secretary’s report: None provided. Executive Director’s Report: John Schloot gave a brief update on the status of the Hallsville Clinic and reported that Audrain Medical Center is helping with some of the paperwork. Hallsville Mayor Carl South said that the City is addressing issues with weeds and other property nuisances. In other announcements, Nancy Franklin said that the Hallsville Cert team is selling first aid kits as a fundraiser for the group. Business of the Month: The August Business of the Month was presented to Chad Sayre, Allstate Consultants. Program: The program was presented by Hallsville Coach John Williams, who gave the details of a 5K Walk/Run sponsored by the Semper FI society to be held in Hallsville on September 27, 2008 beginning at 8:00 am behind the school. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. After the presentation, Steve George introduced a motion that the chamber give $100 in support of the Walk/Run to help offset the costs of T-shirts and other expenses. The motion was seconded by Jim Bunton. The motion carried by majority vote. John and Rose Schloot announced that they are donating $10,000 to the Hallsville Area Development and Health Care Corporation in memory of Lois Daly and Marvin Rhodes. Donations to the not-for-profit corporation are eligible for state tax credits. Linda invited chamber members to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony immediately after the meeting to celebrate a brand new addition at Mulnix Industries. The meeting was adjourned at 1:00 P. M.
