Chamber of Commerce

May 7, 2007

President Nancy Franklin called the meeting to order at the home of John and Rose Schloot. There were about 42 members and guest present.

Nancy thanked John and Rose for the fabulous meal of BBQ ribs and smoked chicken.

BASICS OF WRITING A BUSINESS PLAN: Nancy informed the Chamber that there were 11 in attendance for the class and perhaps this would be something the Chamber would like to do again next year with a different topic.

BOONE COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD – Nancy informed the Chamber of a May 22 th meeting at the community center with the Bo Co Library Board. This is a public hearing to get input from the community. John added that May 10 th, on behalf of Hallsville, Susan Daly would be giving a presentation to the Library Board at their meeting at the Columbia Library at 6:00 PM. John urged everyone to come and show support to Hallsville getting a library located in Hallsville.

CPR and CERTS CLASSES: There will be a free CPR class at the Elementary Commons May 10 th, 2007 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. There will also be a CERTS Class held Tuesday and Thursday evening and all day Saturday May 15, 17, and 19 th. Call City Hall to sign up for either of these classes. 696-3885

DISASTER BOXES : The Hallsville Disaster boxes are completed and being distributed. This puts Hallsville ahead of most communities in time of a disaster as far as having all the phone numbers and available resources at the tip of their fingers in time of a need.

HERITAGE DAYS: Nancy reminded the Chamber members that Heritage Days was coming soon and to be expecting a request for donations of product or services to be given away as raffle items.

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH : Nancy announced the Business of the Month was Mid City Lumber Co. Mike Teel was not present to accept the award so Mike Crabtree stood in to accept the award for Mike. Mike Teel has been a big supporter and contributor anytime the Chamber asked. He also donated a large amount of machines to help with the disaster relief in Renick last year. John stated that the Mayor of Renick wanted to come tonight but illness kept him away. He wanted to thank the Hallsville people for all they did during the disaster last year. Their community is starting to grow and they wanted Hallsville help in developing a good growth plan.

HALLSVILLE SHOWCASE OF HOMES: Nancy talked about the Showcase and all involved thought it was a success. The turnout was not as large as they planned for but those that came were impressed with the town. The Chamber picked up 4 new members from the day. This is something that the Chamber may want to help sponsor again next year.

INSTALLATION OF EXECUTIVE BOARD OFFICERS: Nancy introduced the new incoming President, Lorry Meyer and did a formal passing of the gavel. The new officers were then introduced, Linda Crigler, Vice President, Barb Corwin, Secretary and Justin Darr, Treasurer. Lorry thanked Nancy for a good year and told the Chamber that she had some good things planned for the upcoming year. Rhonda Daly, out going VP, presented flowers to Nancy and thanked her for making all the meetings this past year making her job easy

With no other business to attend to, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted;

Bonnie Durk, Secretary
