President Nancy Franklin called the meeting to order at the Hallsville Community Center. There were 32 members and guest present.

MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: The reading of the minutes was waived as the minutes were mailed out. Nancy mentioned a correction that Mr. Edwards work for the Small Business Assc. and that has been corrected in the minutes. Steve George made a motion to approve the minutes as amended. Kay Berkley seconded the motion and the motion passed with no nay votes.

CHERI REISCH, CITY OF HALLSVILLE: Cheri presented plaques to
John and Rose Schloot, Bondi Wood from Boone Electric Trust, and Robbie Price from Boone County Community Trust for donations and labor to help refurbish the Hallsville Community Center. The plaques will be hung at the Community Center to honor them. Cheri added that Hallsville had issued their 54th business licenses for the year to Stick It Here storage units. This broke the record on the number of licenses issued in a year.

HALLSVILLE SCHOOL SUPPORT LETTER: Nancy informed the Chamber that she had submitted a letter of support from the Chamber to Tom Baugh for the sidewalk grant he was applying for. The grant would provide funds to build sidewalks through the Hallsville School campus plus in surrounding neighborhoods like Douglas Point and Townsquare. This would make a safer place for the school children to walk to and from school.

TREASURER REPORT: Justin reported a total in the Chamber account of $4,225.11 and $440.99 in the Media account. Dues were due by January 31 and if your dues are not paid yet, you need to get that in ASAP.

NAME TAGS: Nancy told the Chamber that color name tags have been found at a cost that was reasonable and the Chamber will pay for up to 4 per business. If additional tags are needed, there will be a charge of $2.00 each. The tags will have the business name and the person’s name on them. Bonnie will be sending out a notice that must be returned to be sure we have the correct names for your business. Deadline will be March 1, 2007 to get these back in so we can order the name badges.

MOCK INTERVIEWS: Nancy announced the date for the Senior mock interviews will be Thursday, April 19, 2007. Anyone wanting to help should call Lori Meyer at Martinsburg Bank.

PROPOSED OPEN HOUSE: Sam Giroux spoke to the Chamber stating that the biggest task to home sellers in Hallsville is to get people to drive up to Hallsville if they have never been here. He asked if there would be any support for a Hallsville City wide Open house in the spring with the Chamber, School, and businesses giving presentations. This might get prospective buyers here so they can hear more about the community. The Chamber board will take this suggestion under advisement.

The meal for March will be prepared by Barb Corwin and Eva Hensley.

IN GOOD COMPANY: Nancy informed the Chamber about an up coming seminar for women called In Good Company. The date is Tuesday, February 27, 2007 and for more information call 882-7096.

He would like to see 25 in the class. There will be a quarterly CERT’S training class on electric safety held Feb. 15th at 7:00 PM at the Hallsville Fire Station. He invited anyone interested to attend.

PROGRAM: Nancy Franklin talked about the changes in the tax laws for this year. The one thing she sees most is that documentation is key to all deductions.

There is a one time tax refund for federal excise tax from telephone bills. There are credits for energy saving related materials added to your home. No cash charitable contributions will be allowed with out documentation. Standard mileage for 2006 is .445 cents per mile and for 2007 it will be .485 cents per mile. All contract labor must be backed up with 1099 forms if they make over $600 per year.

With no other business to attend to, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted;

Bonnie Durk, Secretary
