Chamber of Commerce Minutes
January 14, 2008

Executive Director John Schloot called the meeting to order at the Hallsville Community Center with 30 members and guests present.  Lunch was provided by the Schloots.

Treasurer’s Report:  Treasurer Justin Darr reported that the Chamber has $2,513.54 in the primary account and $928.84 in the media account.  He also reminded members that annual membership dues of $50 are due by January 31, 2008.  An individual non voting membership is also available for $30.

Secretary’s Report:  None provided.

Executive Director’s Report:  John Schloot thanked everyone who attended the Holiday Party and awards presentations at his home on December 3, 2007.  The first Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Russell Cook, the first Educator of the Year Award was presented to Hallsville fourth grade teacher Sherri Briedwell and Business of the Year was presented to Boone County National Bank of Hallsville.

John reported that he and Rose have been attending meetings of the Boone County District Library Board and the Daniel Boone Regional Library Board.  He senses that the library has made no move toward establishing a library in Hallsville.  John stressed that people in Hallsville need to organize an effort to show support for a library branch in Hallsville.

John reported ongoing efforts to replace the University Clinics in Hallsville.  He said that there is a health system interested in opening a clinic, but those efforts are contingent on a handshake deal to have hospital privileges in Columbia.

Business of the Month:  John presented the January 2008 Business of the Month award to the City of Hallsville.

Program:  The program was provided by Bernie Andrews, Executive Director of REDI.  Bernie presented a PowerPoint summary of efforts to showcase a property owned by Larry and Ruthann Douglas as a potential site for a data center. He used this effort as an example of the criteria needed to attract businesses to a location in the Hallsville area.  David Meyer, Marketing Director led a discussion on the use of Chapter 100 bonds as an incentive to attract new businesses to the community.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Barb Corwin
Chamber Secretary
